GST Alum Nachshon Fishbane Helps Businesses Succeed with Web-Based Solutions

Meet Nachshon Fishbane, Graduate School of Technology alum with a master’s degree in Information Systems. A developer, project manager and chief technical officer, Nachson is currently the co-owner of Creative Minds, a software development company, and BeatMed.com, an online medical marketplace.

What was your favorite class or professor at Touro and why?

Touro’s Core SQL Server Training, which teaches database management, supplied me with knowledge and skills that set me on my technical path after finishing my degree.

What is the most surprising way your Touro experience prepared you for your current career?

It gave me a wide range of knowledge to use in various capacities as a manager and as a developer, from database and web development to project management.

As an alumnus, how are you still involved with Touro? Why is it important to you?

As an owner of a company, I see Touro as an opportunity to recruit valuable employees, and as an alumnus I am interested in the progress of the school and its direction toward the current trends in technology.

Can you give us a snapshot of a day in the life of an IS developer/manager?

I open every day with a "stand-up" meeting with my teams’ developers. My employees report what they accomplished yesterday, what they are working on today, and where they are in their weekly goals. I review my own tasks and plan my day accordingly. As a manager of an international company, I travel a lot, meet people and launch new opportunities. At the end of the day, I review where my time was spent so I can determine if I could have spent it on more valuable tasks.

Describe the most rewarding experience of your career thus far.

Seeing my company grow is the most rewarding experience. We started with one employee two years ago and we now have around 20 developers on my team, and the company is still growing and profitable. Also one of the more rewarding aspects is seeing my clients succeed, a client like CorporateGift.com, who started its journey with my company and is now one of the leading sites in the U.S. gift market.
