GST Alumna's 3D Animation was selected by Animart Festival!

We recently caught up with Touro GST alumna Shih Yin Lee to talk about her 3D Animation selection in Animart Fest. Lee, who received her MS in UX/UI and Interaction Design at GST, explains her newfound passion for creating animations that make people feel positive.

Please introduce yourself - Which GST program did you attend? When did you graduate and what are you doing now?

My name is Shih Yin Lee. I'm from Taiwan. I started the "Master of Science in UX/UI and Interaction Design program" in Spring of 2019 and graduated in June of 2021. Now, I do multimedia design projects for small companies.

Why did you decide to pursue a graduate degree in technology?

I've done graphic design for about 3 years, and I found I cannot go furthermore. So, I decided to go to school to learn more skills and get a Master's degree.

Why did you select Touro GST for your graduate studies?

My friend who graduated from Touro University recommended me to this school.

Can you share a positive experience that you had while attending GST?

I didn't major in the design area in college so because of this many software are totally new for me. I struggled a lot in some classes, but after the end of the semester, I felt happy because felt that I improved a lot.

Who is a professor who has made an impression on you while pursuing your degree at GST and why would you single out this instructor?

Many professors taught me a lot, for example, Professors Nicole, Antony, Josh, and Jolie. Dominika Juraszek is the professor who has the biggest impact on me. She devoted a lot of time to students. 3D animation is totally new for me so sometimes I felt stressed doing the assignments, but, after the class, I learned a lot. I never thought that I'll do any animation in my life, but Professor Dominika made me see this opportunity that I could tell a good story to people through making the animation. This idea makes me excited because I'm very sure this is what I want to do in my future life. I'm very appreciative of Professor Dominika and Touro University.

How did GST help you or prepare you for your position today?

After graduation, I started to send out my resume on LinkedIn. I found out that the skills many companies ask for are what I learned from school. Because of this, I feel the program I've majored in was very helpful to find a good job.

How has your career evolved since you graduated?

I want to be a 3D animator, but it's not easy because most companies want to hire an experienced animator. I will do the 3D animations in my free time and upload them to my YouTube channel. After 1 or 2 years, I might have many good animations and become more skillful. At that time, I think I'll be more qualified to get a good position in 3D animation job.

Why are you passionate about your field of work?

I think animations can last longer and affect more people. Animations can make people happy, and some can make them think more or comprehend something. If someone gets a positive emotion or thought through watching my animation, I'll feel very happy. Therefore, I'm passionate about this field of work.

What is your “dream” job?

My dream job is to work with a good team and make great animations that make people impressed and feel positive.

What would you say to a prospective student who is considering Touro GST along with other graduate programs?

Learn as much as you can. Knowledge is power.

Congratulations on your 3D animation capstone project being selected in the Animart Fest! What is the project called?

The Truth is out There.

Where did you come up with the idea for it?

I feel the world is so huge and many things we don't know. I chose ants as the main characters because ants are very small, and they only know very little about the world. Though they know everything in the ants' world, the truth is "There are many things they don't know". I want to show this concept and make people think about our lives. There are also many things we don't know in the world, so we need to be modest and respect the unknown things.

Could you tell me more about it?

Description: This was a sunny day; the ants were busy and working hard. Suddenly, there was a huge shadow blocking the sun. The ants were shocked: What blocked the sun? Some ants said there was a legend about humans that was greater than ants. The ants were scared and discussed a lot. Is there a kind of life called "human" in the world?
