Earn While You Learn

Graduate Assistantship positions provide international students with an opportunity to work in a Touro University administrative office or in an academic department. Positions are awarded to qualified students after successfully completing their first semester of studies in GST and require a specific work commitment for the semester.

In exchange for the work commitment, students in these positions receive a financial stipend or a scholarship credit towards their tuition.

A similar Federal Work Study program is available for domestic students.

"I work for the Institutional Research Department at the 500 Building Times Square under Evan Hoberm. I help the team update various department student scores and passer rates on SQL Server and create pivot tables and graphs in Excel and Tableau with alumni feedback and success rates. In addition, I also clean up Excel files with duplicates and recreate them with normalization for better analytic results. The experience working at the 500 Building, which operates as a real corporate company, definitely helps me as a GST student and with my future career in terms of teamwork, growing my network, being punctual with attendance, homework, deadlines, and overall interacting with classmates. The coursework definitely helps me during my internship as I have classes in Excel, SQL Server and Tableau which I use intensively for day to day responsibilities. The classes made the transition a lot easier and also tasks are completed a lot quicker."

"Getting the opportunity to be a Graduate Assistant at Touro GST was phenomenal. It gave me the confidence that I needed to get a head start in my professional career. I learned about a lot of great things. Just to give you detailed insights, I have learned technology tools that I will be using in my professional career, such as SQL Server and Tableu, which is used by all the large companies. I, however, knew the basics of SQL but this platform gave me an in-depth knowledge about both the tools. It was challenging to cope up with my studies and work, but the challenge is something that thrills millennials. "To be a Graduate Assistant at Touro GST has been a big opportunity for me, especially with the help and support I’ve received from my fellow coworkers. "Working as a graduate student at the Graduate School of Technology gave me the support I needed both as a student and a prospective Network Analyst. The college was very welcoming and helped me to kick start my career by giving me the opportunities to learn from well experienced Professor Albert Bina who I learnt about Windows Server and Network management from, and Daniel Massena who also gave me an insight to the real world of Networking. About her work study position with the GST marketing team, Eliyan says "Touro University enabled me to work and study as a graduate student at the same time. I work in the marketing department for the Graduate School of Technology, and I am a LinkedIn sales navigator expert, researching undergraduate prospects, and contributing to marketing campaigns. As a Federal Work Study employee, I am gaining the experience, knowledge, and skills that I need for my future career. The work experience, in particular, has helped me fill in some of my resume gaps, and has given me more confidence as I prepare to enter the job market upon my graduation."

From my studies at Touro University, the one snippet of advice all my professors gave about UX is that it is both dynamic and very competitive field to jump into. For someone who is a career changer from teaching, I needed to give myself a strong competitive edge and a work study position from Touro University Graduate School of Technology has increased my competitiveness tenfold. Through my work study, I adapted my background in teaching and historical analysis to hard and soft skills in UX, user research, competitive analysis, and project management. This opportunity allowed me to advance my skills and knowledge beyond what I was learning in the classroom and gain professional experience. As a work study graduate student specializing in UX design, I applied lean and agile design processes to solve design problems. These real professional experiences through my work study experience have given me a competitive edge to stand out in the job market for UX Design and Research.
