Graduate Assistants - International and Federal Work Study Program

Earn While You Learn

Graduate Assistantship positions provide students with an opportunity to work in a Touro University administrative office or in an academic department. Positions are awarded to qualified students after successfully completing their first semester of studies in GST and require a specific work commitment for the semester.

In exchange for the work commitment, students in these positions receive a financial stipend or a scholarship credit towards their tuition.

On top of gaining top-notch professional experience, our Graduate Assistants are exposed to the wonders that New York City has to offer, while also creating long-lasting friendships.

Ximena (MSDA '26)

"It has been an incredibly fulfilling professional experience to work as a graduate assistant, whose responsibilities include managing projects and reaching out to potential students. Interacting with candidates has improved my interpersonal and communication abilities, enabling me to offer them individualized support during the admissions process. Meanwhile, managing projects along with administrators has improved my leadership and organizational skills while encouraging creativity and teamwork. This dual role has improved my confidence in handling a variety of responsibilities and deepened my awareness of the higher education scene. "My experience at Touro GST has been incredibly rewarding in advancing my professional skills. My role involves developing and maintaining the GST website using PHP, HTML, CSS, JS, while also managing automated CI/CD processes via GitHub Actions. In addition to technical work, I've been involved in task management using a Kanban board, which has helped me stay organized. Collaborating with various teams—including professors, staff, the marketing team, and other teams has enhanced my communication and project management skills. This hands-on experience has given me invaluable insights into how cross-functional collaboration contributes to the success of software development projects. "During my time as a Graduate Assistant at Touro University (GST), I supported the Marketing Department while pursuing my graduate studies. My key responsibilities included editing engaging workshops, as well as spotlight videos that showcased students, alumni, and guest speakers, and designing banners and flyers for various events. Through editing these workshops, I gained valuable insights into current trending topics, expanding my knowledge and enhancing my academic experience. These Collaborative projects developed my communication, problem-solving, and networking skills. "I work for the Institutional Research Department at the 500 Building Times Square under Evan Hoberm. I help the team update various department student scores and passer rates on SQL Server and create pivot tables and graphs in Excel and Tableau with alumni feedback and success rates. In addition, I also clean up Excel files with duplicates and recreate them with normalization for better analytic results. The experience working at the 500 Building, which operates as a real corporate company, definitely helps me as a GST student and with my future career in terms of teamwork, growing my network, being punctual with attendance, homework, deadlines, and overall interacting with classmates. The coursework definitely helps me during my internship as I have classes in Excel, SQL Server and Tableau which I use intensively for day to day responsibilities. The classes made the transition a lot easier and also tasks are completed a lot quicker."

"Getting the opportunity to be a Graduate Assistant at Touro GST was phenomenal. It gave me the confidence that I needed to get a head start in my professional career. I learned about a lot of great things. Just to give you detailed insights, I have learned technology tools that I will be using in my professional career, such as SQL Server and Tableu, which is used by all the large companies. I, however, knew the basics of SQL but this platform gave me an in-depth knowledge about both the tools. It was challenging to cope up with my studies and work, but the challenge is something that thrills millennials. Challenge is something that motivates me to do more and do something out of the box— and I loved to be challenged."

"Working as a graduate student at the Graduate School of Technology gave me the support I needed both as a student and a prospective Network Analyst. The college was very welcoming and helped me to kick start my career by giving me the opportunities to learn from well experienced Professor Albert Bina who I learnt about Windows Server and Network management from, and Daniel Massena who also gave me an insight to the real world of Networking.
